PGA TOUR shortens the Barclays to 54 holes

Hurricane Irene is barreling otwards the Mid-Atlantic coast and who knows how far it will reach with its’ damaging winds. Because of that, tournament officials have decided to shorten the first leg of the PGA TOUR Playoffs to 3 rounds. Give TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem credit for making a quick decision to shorten the event. He simply said, although he’d like for the players to have 72 holes to crown a champion, it would be unfair to ask players, fans and volunteers to ‘weather’ the storm. Finchem said once the storm arrives, everyone’s best efforts in the area will be needed to help with the cleanup, The plan is to play Saturday but if weather halts play too long the TOUR will be forced to revert back to 36 hole scores and declare a winner. Not sure anyone is rooting for that to happen but Matt Kuchar is the leader at the 36 hole mark
